Assignment 2

Project Design Plan 5 pts Due 9/10/03

For the semester project submit a site plan written in HTML as follows. It is understood that the the design will change over time, so this is not a contract, simply a planning tool. It helps you stay focused on the project and helps me know that you are making progress.

It is also important to NOT focus on the technologies you will use during this part of the planning. Designers must thoroughly understand the site's purpose, intended audience and functionality needed to meet the goals before they can choose appropriate technologies. While the end project will include technologies you learn throughout the course, how you will use them will be determined at a later stage.

  1. Define the goals of your site:
    • Should the site educate, entertain, allow interaction, inform users, collect information from users, advertise, and/or allow online purchasing?
    • Who is your audience (demographically)?
    • How advanced is their computer likely to be?
    • How skilled are they likely to be in computer technology?

  2. Research your site theme:
    • Find at least three other sites similar to the one you are planning, list them and describe the best/worst features
    • Look to other types of media for inspiration
    • Ask your prospective audience what their preferences are
  3. Make decisions with respect to:
    • What resolution will your site be best viewed in
    • How many pages the site should have initially (the project requires a minimum of three DHTML and one XML output in HTML)
    • The color schemes you plan to employ
    • The type and use of images and photos
    • How users will navigate the site
Produce an HTML document that outlines your site plan and upload it to your server area.
